Big Toe Pain Wrap
This toe splint holds the big toe (hallux) in an ideal position for healing and supports the metatarsophalangeal (the joint at the base of the toe, also known as MTP) in proper alignment.
Promoting the metatarsophalangeal joint alignment, using fastener compatible material that is adjustable and conforms to your foot. Thanks to fastener closure this is easy to apply. This item is thin, and lightweight. It can even be worn inside a shoe.
This speeds healing and protects the foot and toe against further injury. This is what is needed for treating conditions such as turf toe, bunions and other toe deformities. Â See our line of toe protectors.
This brace for turf toe is highly adjustable. Indeed, the entire brace is made of soft material that can easily be adjusted so that it conforms to the contours of any foot. The big toe component of the splint for bunions is also adjustable. The additional fastener strap helps to separate and pull the first metatarsal (big toe) away from the second, keeping them from rubbing together.
The bunion brace is also quite comfortable to wear, unlike an uncomfortable hard bunion splint, thanks to its thin, lightweight material. If room permits, you may be able to wear this bunion wrap inside of your shoe to help prevent rubbing from occurring. For added convenience, the foot/toe splint is washable as well as latex-free.
Bunion & Turf Toe Relief
Essentially, turf toe is a sprain of the middle joint at the base of the big toe that might occur when the toe is forced into hyperextension when the toe is fixed on the ground with the heel in the air. This injury can occur in a number of activities and sports.
As with other sprains, treatment involves following the steps of rest, ice, compression and elevation (RICE)Â Rest involves taking a break from the activity that caused the injury in the first place and avoiding walking or putting weight on the foot.
Another component of turf toe treatment involves immobilizing the MTP joint, which is where this brace for toe alignment can help. It also can help reduce stress on the plantar plate and provide support.
While a bunion is quite different than a turf toe sprain, treatment for this injury also involves reducing the amount of pressure on one’s big toe as well as following the steps of RICE to reduce swelling.  Check out our line of bunion splints, toe spreaders, toe separators and pain relief items.
Wearing roomy shoes with wide and deep toe boxes and avoiding high heels are also important for achieving relief from bunions, or an enlargement of the bone or tissue around the metatarsophalangeal joint. There are also a number of arch supports and other foot orthotics that can encourage even distribution of weight on the foot, which helps reduce discomfort stemming from bunions.

Slip on our Splint and the tight tendons and toe muscles stretch. The brace straps your toe in position, while the soft fabric cushions the tender area. Adjust the splint to provide the most protection, and secure in place with a hook-and-loop closure. Podiatrist-recommended for patients who don’t want painful, costly bunion surgery.
Caution: If you have diabetes or poor circulation, consult your physician before using this product. Do not use on skin with open wounds.
A bunion is characterized by pain and redness or blisters or bursitis of the toe joint. The toe joint appears large and may stick out from the edge of the foot, will be sensitive to shoes and may become quite painful. The big toe also tends to point to the side — toward your other toes — instead of straight ahead. Your toe may even cross underneath your adjacent toe.
Other conservative treatments include using forefoot products designed to accommodate and relieve bunions such as Bort Medical bunion shields, Bort Medical bunion night splints, bunion bandages, toe spreaders and toe separators. These conservative treatments can limit the progression of the bunion formation, relieve pain and provide a healthy environment for the foot.
If you need a surgery to treat your bunions or if the problem persists, consult the podiatrist.
What is Hallux Valgus?
Hallux valgus (bunions) is a very widespread misalignment of the big toes. The big toe noticeably drifts to the outer edge of the foot, where it also crowds the smaller toes. With the hallux valgus deformity, the metatarsophalangeal joint is overstrained and as a result, painful →arthritis of the big toe (hallux rigidus) can develop.
The protruding bunion at the metatarsophalangeal joint becomes inflamed and painful and can swell. There are numerous conservative procedures to treat hallux valgus and alleviate pain.
What causes Hallux valgus pain?
- The bunion, tender to pressure, becomes inflamed and pushes against the inside of the shoe.
- The crowded small toes (hammer toes and claw toes) cause further forefoot deformities.
- Pain occurs in the arch of the foot. Because the big toe is no longer being fully utilized and the small toes are overstrained.
- Arthritic pain in the metatarsophalangeal joint occurs due to wear of the joint.
Can hallux valgus be corrected without surgery?
Nonsurgical treatments that may relieve the pain and pressure of a bunion include:
- Changing shoes. Wear roomy, comfortable shoes that provide plenty of space for your toes.
- Padding. Over-the-counter, nonmedicated bunion pads or cushions may be helpful. They can act as a buffer between your foot and your shoe and ease your pain.
- Medications. Acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen sodium (Aleve) can help you control the pain of a bunion. Cortisone injections also might help.
- Shoe inserts. Padded shoe inserts can help distribute pressure evenly when you move your feet, reducing your symptoms and preventing your bunion from getting worse. Over-the-counter supports can provide relief for some people; others require prescription orthotic devices.
- Applying ice. Icing your bunion after you’ve been on your feet too long or if it becomes inflamed can help relieve soreness and swelling. If you have reduced feeling or circulation problems with your feet, check with your doctor first before applying ice.
